Zurker is a relatively new site that could cause some mild change in social media and networking sites. In the beginning of the site it mixes social media with entrepreneurship. It is different then other sites for a couple of reasons.
Zurker has taken things a bit further then the other social networks. You don't just own your data; you can own the network as well. Every Zurker user can very easily become a co-owner/future shareholder of Zurker. Now why is this good?
Zurker is a member-owned application.
This means Zurker isn't owned by a select few venture capitalists who stand to make only money. There is nothing wrong with the idea few people making lots of money but it shouldn't be a major value for social networks because the users are often left out of important decisions. Gradually sites become orientated towards one thing and one thing only: making money.
It's not a bad thing for a social network to make money, but if attaining every last penny from the user base is the abiding concern, the users aren't going to get the best possible product, or they wont in most cases.
So as a result Zurker is driven by democracy. The people decide what should be changed, updated and innovated making a site that people want to go to. They do this through allowing members obtain vShares in the future company. In other words, you own Zurker. As with any other social network, refer your friends. By referring friends and doing a little work you can be rewarded by getting a share in the company, and if success comes to the company you can be rewarded in the future.
Check out the site, everything is free and it is much like the other sites, it is sort of a combination of Facebook and twitter.
